Rabbit Management Rabbits can cause a large amount of damage to crops, embankments, railway cuttings and gardens. They breed very quickly, with a pregnancy period of 28 to 30 days, and typically produces an average litter of 5 young. These young will be weaned and start to do their own damage within 4 to 5 weeks. Unless controlled, a small number of rabbits will rapidly grow to cause a large amount of damage. Sure Shot use a range of rifle calibres to control rabbits, but typically 0.17 HMR and 0.22 rimfire rifles will be used. These are fitted with sound moderators to reduce noise. 0.22 rifles using sub sonic ammunition are very quiet and can be used near houses and livestock without the risk of loud noises. The 0.17 HMR is a supersonic round so is slightly louder, but does have the advantage of long range. Typically this calibre is effective for shooting rabbitts up to around 200 yards. As rabbits are more active at night we use powerful lights or night vision equipment to allow them to be seen. All Sure Shot controllers are expert marksmen and are fully trained and insured for the legal use of rifles for rabbit control. As with all Sure Shot animal management, there is no charge for us to control your rabbit problems. |
